New collars (again!!)

Last night the babies received new collars, they've outgrown another set. Too bad my camera battery was dead when we put them on, they were very bright and pretty, but this morning I can see that most of them already have snags where little teeth have been chewing on them. At least we can see these collars - the last ones would hide under their puppy fuzz and we had to pick them up before we could tell who was who. They are growing so fast, these collars will only be with them for a week at the very most anyhow. :)

First Toy

Tonight the babies got to play with their first toy, a stuffed moose with a squeaker ~ although they do not have large enough mouths to squeak the squeaker. Some of the pup were very excited about their new toy while others didn't seem to pay much attention to it.

Just a short video of the babies playing this morning while mom was outside for her morning jog.

Miss Pink

Miss Pink found herself a nice cozy spot to sleep with her mommy tonight. I couldn't resist this shot. It didn't faze her a bit that her mom was still busy cleaning her brothers and sisters, she was a happy little girl.

Playing babies

Everyone's eyes are now open and they are learning to growel, bark and play with each other. Click play on the video above to watch the puppies learning to wrestle with each other.

Week #3

Jazz's babies are now 3 weeks old. Their spots are starting to show through and a few eyes are starting to open. In another couple of weeks they will hit their peak of cuteness!! :) They are very sweet at this age, but my favorite is at about 4 weeks of age.

Enough to go around

It's very nice to watch Jazz with her 7 puppies - last time she had a litter she gave birth to 10 puppies and we were frequently worried that someone wasn't getting enough to eat. With 12 nipples and plenty of milk, these babies are all growing well and never miss out on a meal.

Getting bigger

The babies are all doing well tonight. Once again I got home from work too late to weigh them, but they are clearly getting bigger by the day still. Everyone is in their 3rd collar since being born except Miss Purple who is now too big for her stage 2 collar but too small for stage 3, so for now she is going without a collar. We can just start to see their spots through their hair.

Trim

We are really impressed with how much nose and eye trim this litter has at 1 week old! Only one baby is missing trim, and at this stage I have no reason to think her's won't come in as well. The first photo is of Mr Orange and the second is Miss Pink.

Mom and all babies are doing very well. Today they had their first 'viewers' - 3 very nice ladies from Walla Walla who came to look at the babies. We are just thrilled that we now have one puppy from this litter going to Milton-Freewater (about 15 minutes north of us) and now one going to Walla Walla (about 40 minutes north of us!) All of our babies in the past have gone far enough that they are 4 to 5 hours away at the minimum.

New Collars

One of the hardest things with puppies is finding collars that are safe, low maintenance and come in as many colors as the litter has puppies. The first collars we had on these puppies were not working out, they kept snagging their front nails in them, fraying the collars. Jazz was fussing with the fray on the collars, so they had to go - besides that, a couple of the babies kept putting their front legs through the collar. Because we changed collar types, a couple of pups had to change colors as well. White is now blue and no collar is now green.

Weigh In

While weighing puppies, little red girl decided it is was a good place to take a nap. All of the puppies except yellow gained weight today.

Recap

Yesterday was a long day and with a couple of scary ones, so the posts weren't too complete. Here is a run down of what we have:
Orange = Liver Boy 14.0 ounces, born at 6:35am
Purple = Liver Girl 10.0 ounces, born at 8:05am
Yellow = Black Boy 13.0 ounces, born at 8:35am
Dark Pink = Black Girl 12.3 ounces, born at 9:45am
White = Liver Girl 12.7 ounces, born at 11:48am
Red = Black Girl 12.7 ounces, born at 1:15pm
No collar = Liver Girl 13.5 ounces, born at 1:40pm
No patches - so we may have some livers/blacks incorrect, but these are our best guess. :)

It's a wrap.

Mom and babies are doing well. The grand total is 5 girls and 2 boys (no patches). All seem healthy and have lots of nose trim as far as we can tell at this stage.

Close call

Well it took two hours for the fifth puppy. Debbie was on the phone with the vet when Jazz finally gave birth to her, that makes three girls. The forth puppy born which was a girl is now hot pink.

Number 4

Number 4 is here and it is a girl, she is the one without the collar. Orange was the first boy, purple is the second puppy which is a girl, yellow was the third and also a boy. It has been a little over three hours and mom seems to be doing good.

Another boy

We are up to three puppies now, another boy at 13 ounces. He is the one on the far right the girl is in the middle all are nursing good.

We've begun

Jazz started into labor at 6:35 this morning the first puppy was a boy at 14 ounces the second is a baby girl at 10 ounces. Mom is doing good and we should have 5 more babies to go.
I had so hoped that she would wait until tonight or later to do this, but there's no stopping her! I'm supposed to be in Walla Walla to judge the 4-H dog show today, what a horrible phone call to have to make to Shonda this morning - sorry but I'm not going to make it.

Getting close

This morning Jazz completely refused to eat her breakfast, so we are getting close! The last few days she has cut down to only eating about half her breakfast and dinner (which really pleases Izza and Willow who are both very willing to finish off Jazz's bowl), but this morning she just stood there looking at me with big sad eyes. No matter how much I tried to encourage her to take a bite, she just couldn't make herself do it. Hopefully she holds off to at least tomorrow afternoon or better yet, Saturday seeing I'll be spending the bulk of tomorrow in Walla Walla judging the 4-H dog show. Luckily my parents are at our home, so she won't be alone today while I'm at work, or tomorrow while I'm at the fair.

First Photo

Jazz had fun at the vet this morning, everyone was loving on her and feeling bad for her seeing she is so huge! We can clearly see 6 puppies and possibly a small 7th puppy on the x-ray. I'm sure glad we had the x-ray done, as big as she is, I would have been sure she had more than 6 to 7 pups in there. :)
If you click on the x-ray it will make it nice and big so you can take a look at the puppies too!!
